Our Quality
Stentor violins, violas, cellos and double basses are carved from solid tonewoods, from the initial instrument shape to the finer details. Instruments are individually thicknessed for quality of sound. We carefully control the specification and measurements of Stentor instruments at our own factory workshops to produce instruments that have the essential characteristics of good tone and consistent quality control. On all Stentor instruments, the bridge and soundpost are carefully fitted to ensure the best playability. Many other instruments made without these controls are unplayable, leading to disappointment and discouragement. All our wood is carefully selected and dried before use and moisture content constantly monitored. Stentor instruments are produced by trained workers using specialist tools and traditional techniques and we continue to make improvements to our quality.
Our Factory
Stentor instruments are produced in our wholly-owned factory in Taixing, China. We set up the factory over 25 years ago and now it is one of the most established violin factories in China.Today our factory is ISO9001 compliant and produces a full range of violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Our factory management team has years of violin-making experience and together with our UK team they ensure consistency above the level of other manufactured brands. We are able to control Stentor quality and specifications, unlike other brands that are simply sourcing instruments. Over the years, as China has grown and modernized, we have successfully blended traditional craftsmanship together with modern methods to continually improve our instruments.One of the advantages of owning our own factory is that we operate a due diligence policy when sourcing our raw materials which enables us to comply with CITES regulations, the LACEY act and EU FLEGT. As well as our commitment to ensuring that the materials we use are from managed sources, all our wood is carefully stored, selected and dried before use. Our careful quality control and attention to detail enables us to produce instruments that are consistently reliable, carefully fitted and produce great tone.
